NB: The GSU's AGM

On November 7th, 2006 I attended the Graduate Students' Union annual general meeting. The attendance was poor, I was the only member of the Humanities and Social Sciences faculty present, and consequently, I am now the said faculty's graduate representative. *applause*

There were reports from the President, Vice, and Treasurer. The following are matters that, I believe, warrant your attention:
  • The University is restructuring. This will affect the College's calendar and the way money is allocated to faculties and departments. The overall intention is to develop Trinity into a world-class research University (and to alleviate the rather unfortunate financial position the College finds itself in). Information on the various proposals is available online.
  • Post Graduates' are not well represented around campus, to the extent that the Graduate Students' Union feels its future is in jeopardy. The threat is that our representative body (with its two full-time officers) will be absorbed into the Students' Union, and Post Graduates will lose their independent voice.
  • The Post Graduates' Ball is to be held on 28/02/2007
Many of us use the 1937 Reading Room, however, do you know there is another exclusively Post Graduate facility, the Common Room? It can be found in House Six, Front Square, and is open daily from 7am - 12pm. Privileges include daily newspapers, books, as well as kitchen and toilet facilities. For members of the class not resident on campus, this may prove useful. It can also be booked through the Graduate Students' Union for group study sessions and social functions.
